Food Glorious Food

Sorry for the long break I have been juggling so many things - I really do need to get my rhythm going!

Okay so one of my passions is cooking of which I have had some real learning experiences with since my Princess was born.  The poor darling has egg and nut allergies, which are life threatening.  So the day she first had whole egg was when I was to learn of her food allergies and a whole new way of cooking.

Out at brunch on the beautiful North Shore in Sydney with my Mum (we used to live in Sydney) Ashleigh-Rose was about 16 months old and about to have her first taste of scrambled eggs and boy did she like them - she couldn't get a mouthful quick enough. Within minutes of her gobbling 3 teaspoons of egg, to my horror, her little face started to puff up and red welts started to appear everywhere.

In a state of panic I rang "000" who said if I was close to a hospital get her there immediately as I would probably be quicker than the ambulance.  Ten minutes from North Shore Hospital we arrived in an emotional mess to be raced into emergency and watch my baby quickly deteriorate.  With doctors immediately administering adrenalin the next half hour became a blur.

To think the wonderful "egg" could be such a deadly ingredient to my daughter was a shock!

To see your child in this way is very scary, her little body was being rapidly attacked and by this stage was red raw - only 20 minutes had transpired since she had eaten the egg.

I do fancy myself as a bit of a Master Chef and love cooking for family and friends but from this day on my cooking had to take a complete turn around.

One who loved to bake: cakes, quiches, mornay's, pasta, pastries......... wow, to think that "EGG" was in so many things?

But where there's a will, there's a way......

So lots of experimental cakes - "without" egg and lots of disasters!!
But here's a couple of my success stories - being for my beautiful girls Birthday's.  Every child has to have a birthday cake they can eat.

Who would think this was an egg-less chocolate cake?

 And another egg-less chocolate cake.....................

Getting Back into the Swing of Things....

Well, getting into the swing of Blogging is harder than I thought, harder than getting back into the "Swing of Life".

But what better way to do it than by taking up Trapezing - how many of you when you were younger at the circus wanted to be part of that Trapeze Team swinging from the beams?

So my first addition to becoming a Savvy Single Mummy was to add Trapezing to my Profile!!

Yes that's me gliding through the air in the City Square........

I say it's never too late to give it a go, so with my new lease of life and being introduced by a work colleague to this fine art, we decided to make it one of our regular forms of exercising.  I was surprised at how adventurous I still could be and how brave Ashleigh-Rose was as we enjoyed this past time each Saturday.  I must say I felt I had muscles in my arms that I never knew I had..... lol
Ashleigh-Rose in full swing.................

Unfortunately we haven't been at all this year, as it does prove to be quite pricey but I am so glad I gave it a go.

As with so many things in life you have to give it a go and never look back.

Introduction to Me

Savvy –was what I used to be before I had my gorgeous daughter 8 years ago.

I felt like I had lost myself in motherhood and gradually was losing the Savvy side of me.  A few more kilos had appeared around my waist and thighs and I no longer had a “Social Diary” – it had now become my Daughter’s!! Yes, at 8.

Don’t get me wrong I love being a “mummy” but with it came a feeling of needing to be dull and boring – or as we mum’s do – forget about me!

But that’s not the case; I have finally talked myself out of this NEED.

Which has brought me to the idea of creating my own blog? I thought blogging would give me an outlet and help me to continue to have some personal inspiration.

Also, an opportunity to share some of the “trials and tribulations” of being a “Single Mummy” and believe you me there’s no harder job!  Also, the “joys and special moments” that make this job the most rewarding!

So here I am – ready to share and hopefully gain some insights from others as well…………………

Herald Sun "City to Surf"

Only 4 days to go until I battle the 14k run of the "City to Surf" in Sydney - I'm having nightmares about those massive rolling hills I have to face.

Bondi here I come - hopefully with a much toner butt..... Enjoy your day.
